OVERVIEW OF SERVICES
PRENATAL CARE

Our services include an introductory meeting free of charge so that you may be able to get to know us better and make an informed decision as to whether we are the right midwifery team for you. Beyond the first consultation, we will see you monthly through your second trimester, bimonthly through 36 weeks, and weekly for the final month or so of your pregnancy. We often personalize your care to see you more often if this is your first baby or first birth out of hospital, or on a schedule that better fits your lifestyle (which might mean a less rigorous schedule) without any extra charge.

DIAGNOSTIC TESTING

Contrary to popular belief, midwifery care can be just as high-tech as the main medical model with services including routine blood draws and lab work. Prenatal diagnostics include urinalysis, blood pressure, lab draws such as CBC, blood-glucose testing, and blood type and Rh factor, Group B Strep cultures, and genetic screening.
ULTRASOUND

Birth Journey has in-house ultrasound services available including early pregnancy confirmation, fluid volume, placenta locating, and position checks. We also have an experienced ultrasound technician that provides in-office, radiologist-read reports for your mid-pregnancy anatomy scan and more as needed.
LABOR & DELIVERY

We are available to be present at your labor whenever you want support and not at some pre-defined stage. We will obtain vital signs initially and regularly as labor progresses. The baby’s heart tones are monitored throughout the course of labor and more frequently as the birth approaches. We will speak extensively throughout your prenatal care about how you envision your birth and personalize it to your desires.
WATER BIRTH

Many of our clients choose to birth their babies in the water. They do so because of the comfort and relief that water provides to the laboring mother and the gentle elasticity that hydration provides to the skin. Birthing tub options are available in both home and birth center deliveries with Birth Journey Midwifery.
POSTPARTUM CARE

After the birth when both mother and baby are stable and content, a newborn exam will be done. Both mother and baby’s vitals will be monitored on a regular basis, breastfeeding will be initiated, and we will guide the new family as they settle into normal postpartum routines.
NEWBORN CARE

Although we provide immediate newborn examination, newborn eye prophylaxis, PKU screening and well baby checkups, we recommend that you obtain an appropriate care provider for your newborn before labor and delivery, especially if you desire to have your newborn receive vaccinations, circumcision, etc. If you would like counseling on those options and more, our team is happy to provide education and resources.
LACTATION SUPPORT

Birth Journey is proud to now offer breastfeeding support with the help of International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) trained support staff. This title includes completion of education and training on lactation, achievement of clinical hours of lactation and breastfeeding care, and the successful passing of the IBLCE certification examination. Support on your breastfeeding journey is important to us and we are thrilled to offer this service to our families!

The knowledge of how to give birth without outside intervention lies deep within each woman. Successful childbirth depends on an acceptance of the process.

HOME BIRTH
More and more families are choosing to stay home for their births. Imagine not having to decide when to leave during labor. Wouldn't it be nice if you didn't have to stress over what to pack in your hospital bag, or rush around the house throwing things together last-minute?! Picture climbing into your own bed with your new baby just minutes after giving birth. This is a reality and it can be your birthing experience!
We have several styles of birthing tubs available for water birth should you desire to deliver in the tub at your home. We provide these tubs at the end of your pregnancy so they are available for use during labor for pain relief and relaxation. Water birth is a safe, comforting option for your natural home birth.
We hear many families say they'll choose home birth "next time" after they've birthed in a hospital for the first child. Each baby only has one birth- learn more about the safety of out of hospital birth today!

It's not just the making of babies, but the making of mothers that midwives see as the miracle of birth.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
Nurturing Care

Our $6,000 birth package includes comprehensive maternity care, birth in our beautiful birth center suite or at home, and complete newborn and postpartum care as well as lactation support from the midwives. This includes the mid-pregnancy anatomy ultrasound done by our technician and read by the radiologist, all prenatal appointments and in-house scans, routine lab work, and newborn, postpartum, lactation care through 6 weeks (37 week home visit and two-day follow up appointment will take place in your home). You will be provided with all the birth supplies, a complete birthing tub set up, towels and sheets at the 37 week visit.

INSURANCE
Home birth and birth suite deliveries are being covered with increasing frequency!
We partner with a professional insurance billing company that can place claims and explore insurance coverage, including pre-authorization for maternity care, by submitting a Verification of Benefits at no charge.
Insurance companies we've had great success getting coverage from or being reimbursed by are United Healthcare, Aetna, and Cigna.
Medicaid, SelectHealth, PEHP, DMBA, and EMI, however, have consistently denied out of hospital birth charges and will likely not cover your birth with Birth Journey Midwifery. For this reason, we offer an all-in-one, turnkey pricing package.
We also accept HSA and Flex Spending payments. For families with a high deductible or who are without insurance, an out of hospital birth can also provide tremendous savings.
A deposit paid to retain our services is required. Reimbursement and refunds will be settled after insurance claim payments are finalized.
